I have posted one Fight alert article before, but for those of you new to this site, or to my style of articles the Fight Alert blog is used to alert people to either announced fights that are significant to a division or to alert the general MMA public to quality fights outside the UFC.

Now that the explanation is over, let’s delve into the fight announcement. Former TUF champion Jonathan Brookins will be taking on Brazilian wunderkin Charles Olivera. Since winning TUF Brookins has not had the best streak losing to Erik Koch in his post TUF debut, but demolishing Vagner Rocha at this last February’s UFC on Fuel TV. There have been rumors that he did not train hard enough for the Koch fight, and if that is true that could spell doom if he takes his future opponent lightly.

Charles on the other hand looked to reinvigorate his career after a string of poor performances at 155. After storming the UFC by defeating former TUF champion Efrain Escudero and Darren Elkins by first round submission, his rise was stomped out by losses to top Lightweight Jim Miller and Donald Cerrone sandwiching a no contest to Nik Lentz. Since his drop to 145 looked like he did originally pulling off a rare calf slicer submission in the first round. Charles will look to make it 2-0 against former TUF champions when he takes on Brookins.

The winner of this fight will surely move up the Featherweight ladder. Not many fighters are willing or wanting to step in the cage with Jose Aldo so a decent streak will put you in the right place to do so. Brookins lost to Aldo when he was on his tear to the WEC championship, but if Olivera can continue to look impressive at 145 he may be able to find himself in the Featherweight title picture soon.
