Fabricio Werdum (17-5-1) continues to impress as he takes out Pride legend Antonio Rodrigo  “Big Nog” Nogueira (34-8-1) in front of his home country of Brazil with a finish.

Werdum gets it to the ground early with a single leg after eating a heavy straight. From the ground, he looks to be the better grappler. Minotauro gets it standing and continues to step forward. After some exchanges, the aggressive Big Nog is clearly stifling Werdum as he looks at the clock. Round ends.

Round two kicks off with more movement from Werdum, slipping punches and countering. The fight goes to the ground again and once again Fabricio gets the better of Antonio as he advances position with ease. Werdum is very active, spinning to the back quickly. Werdum rolls out the armbar from the back and the verbal submission comes from Big Nog.

Now on a three fight win-streak since losing to Alistair Overeem via unanimous decision, the “Fedor killer” has now made it very hard to deny his status as a top heavyweight in the UFC. Prior to the win, Werdum had been ranked number three by the UFC official heavyweight standings. He’s now in prime position for a title shot.
