Traditionally, the boxing establishment has hated mixed martial arts. And why not? Cagefighting is relatively new compared to the Sweet Science (by a couple hundred years if you don’t count Pankration in the ancient Olympic Games), and we’re a spectacle populated by thugs and wannabes (not really). They’ve always felt this way about us, and since we’re encroaching on their space in the combat sports world, and our athletes would kill their athletes in a fight, they’re probably going to hate us forever.
Which makes it especially noteworthy that UFC champ and mainstream superstar Ronda Rousey is on The Ring Magazine.
The tagline reads “She conquered MMA. Is boxing next?” But it could just about say anything and it would have the same meaning. Right now Rousey is a traffic magnet, and clearly this is just an attempt to attract eyeballs.
