Jake Ellenberger has been verbally laying into Rory MacDonald as the two prepare for their UFC on FOX 8 bout later this month, and while MacDonald has fired back here and there, “The Juggernaut” continues to say he’s going to KO the rising welterweight.
So, during a media call Tuesday to promote their upcoming, July 27th bout, which is extremely important in terms of the title shot mix, Ellenberger didn’t let up. The #4 ranked welterweight was asked what lies behind the verbal jabs he’s taken at the 23 year-old, and the 28 year-old vet stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I haven’t said anything that wasn’t true,” Ellenberger said. “My message to Rory was pretty clear. … This isn’t a Tears for Fears lookalike contest. All I said to him is prepare for some horizontal television time and I meant it.”
“I’m going out there to perform and to win. It doesn’t matter, Rory doesn’t have a choice where this fight goes, this fight goes where I want it to go. He shown he has potential, has not faced anyone like me. So I’m stoked to be in there.”
MacDonald claimed he doesn’t care about Ellenberger’s comments, but he may have just elected to save his talking for the cage, we’ll see. Dana White also confirmed that since the fight pits the #3 ranked welterweight in MacDonald, against the #4 in Ellenberger, the winner of the bout will move “close to a title shot.”
UFC on FOX 8 will be hosted by Seattle’s Key Arena.
