It has finally been confirmed that Strikeforce’s January card will be its final one on Showtime. The intent was obvious, as the UFC poached Strikeforce’s biggest stars, including women’s champ Ronda Rousey, in order to create their own women’s division. Just in recent days, Robbie Lawler was moved versus Josh Koscheck for UFC 157, and now with the announcement of another removed headliner in Lorenz Larkin, the promotion confirmed the end of their Showtime partnership. Scott Coker made the announcement that the promotion is closing its cage doors for the last time with Showtime on January 12th.

As mentioned earlier, the card has another change as Lorenz Larkin has been removed from his bout with Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. It is being reported that an undisclosed Larkin has been pulled from the card. UFC fighter, Ed Herman will be filling in for Larkin. Herman will be taking on the former Strikeforce middleweight champion Souza. This bout will be contested at a catch-weight of 194,  which is probably due to Herman taking the fight on short notice and the weight cut coming during the holiday season.

Herman is riding a three fight win streak, despite losing his last bout. The result of the contest between him and Jake Shields was overturned after Shields was popped for a failed drug test. Before that loss, Herman returned from an extended layoff to finish all three of his opponents. This could be quite the ground battle considering Herman and Souza have a combined 25 submission wins in their 36 victories. Souza will look to make a statement in this fight before he enters the UFC. Beating a UFC veteran like Ed Herman would do him wonders as he tries to get a top contender as he enters the octagon for the first time.
