Diego Sanchez is trying to set up his potential return to the octagon and if he gets his wish it will have been a full year since he entered the cage. Part of that time off was used to heal up, get married, and more importantly to readjust his weight for a return to the lightweight division. After getting soundly pounded out by BJ Penn in his title shot at 155 he moved back to the division he became famous in, but the landscape had changed a lot since his time at 170. After going 2-2, which should have been 1-3 since he was gifted a decision over Martin Kampmann, he realized the only reason he was unsuccessful at 155 before was his activities out of the cage.

In his return, he could face a big name from the past that is slowly proving himself not to be as far gone as some thought. Sanchez has proposed a match with none other then the “Fireball Kid”Takanori Gomi in hostile territory March 3rd in Japan. Gomi has had his ups and down since joining the UFC, but he has moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2009. He recently picked up a win over Former Ultimate Fighter winner Mac Danzig in the UFC’s first trip to China.

“Might have a fight lined up for March 2,” wrote Sanchez. “Just waiting on the man Joe Silva to see if Mr. Fireball Kid takes it?”

This proposed match would take place, as stated before, on March 3rd in Japan. It would take place at the Saitama super arena in Saitama, Japan. The card would air on FUEL TV as the 8th in the series. No other matches have been announced for the card, but with both fighters being name the Gomi and Sanchez fight could easily be the main event. Hopefully, Gomi accepts the fight and we are set up for a great fight come early March.
