Following the news of Nate Diaz (15-7 MMA, 9-5 UFC) vs. Jim Miller (21-3 MMA, 12-2 UFC) added to UFC on Fox 3, UFC president Dana White tweeted that the bout would be the co-headliner and to expect a main event announcement soon. It seems however the situation has changed as it will now be upgraded to the main event and will include a five-round brawl to find the next lightweight title contender.
Also, a heavyweight clash between Pat “HD” Barry (7-4 MMA, 4-4 UFC) and UFC newcomer Lavar Johnson (16-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has been made announced as the co-main event. Following a viscous knockout of UFC vet. Joey Beltran, Johnson will have his hands full as he looks to strike with the former K-1 kickboxer. Barry was last seen bouncing back with a big win over Christian Morecraft, while earning the “Fight of the Night” bonus on UFC on FX 1.
The UFC on Fox 3 event will take place on May 5 with the UFC returning to the IZOD center in East Rutherford, N.J.
