After a phenomenal showing by the BJJ champion Demian Maia at UFC 153 – he’s now on the hunt for a step up in competition. It didn’t take long for the southpaw to take down the collegiate wrestler Rick Story and submit him via rear-naked choke.

With Maia now holding two straight victories over respectable adversaries, would like to return to challenging the top tier fighters in his newly found 170 pound division.

“I think Nick Diaz and Jon Fitch that opponents would surely have much name this division and I would climb fast. The others, I think they are marked with struggles, but these two guys are certainly very tough and they would have proved much I climb in the division. I think the two have much jiu-jitsu. Both with Nick as with Fitch. Both are good with that, just that I feel more focused on the Fitch’s wrestling than with his jiu-jitsu, and Nick is a guy more with boxing than jiu-jitsu.”

Both men challenged carry plenty of clout in the cage, and for good reason. Jon Fitch was seen on the same 153 card as of late earning “Fight of the Night” honors, as he took out top prospect in the division, Erick Silva. Diaz may have been away from the sport since Feb. of this year due to a failed drug test for marijuana, but his win streak in Strikeforce as champion and victory over B.J. Penn last Oct. demands respect of any fellow welterweight. Diaz should be available to fight come Feb. 2013.

Should Demian Maia get the match-up he desires, will be completely up to match-maker Joe Silva as well as the fans. The UFC has made it clear that if they hear enough rumbles for the fight, it will happen. Right Chael?
