Daniel Cormier may not have been able to deliver a stoppage, but the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix winner had few difficulties in grinding out a unanimous decision win over Frank Mir at UFC on FOX 7.

Throughout much of the bout, Cormier was able to pin Mir along the Octagon fence, where the decorated wrestler proceeded to punish the former champ with punches and knees. When Mir was able to work his way out, or referee Herb Dean intervened to separate the action, Cormier was never seriously threatened by his opponent’s striking game.

Mir came out more aggressively in round three, but once again, he had no answers for Cormier’s wrestling and clinch game. As the fight came to an end, there should have been no doubt in anyone’s mind that Cormier would be handed the UD win.

Solid UFC debut for Cormier, even if it provided few–or no–highlight reel moments,

Official result:

Daniel Cormier def. Frank Mir via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
