When The Ultimate Fighter first debuted all those years ago, it was amidst a time when reality TV ruled the airwaves. So of course we wanted to see how MMA fighters would survive in a house full of booze and testosterone.
That whole premise got old, of course. Painfully old. And now it’s just embarrassing to see fighters lose themselves in front of the camera.
Enter: Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, which strips away all the TUF House nonsense. Instead, we have just fights, and then fighters waiting backstage to see if White will sign one of them on to a UFC contract. It’s bare bones – especially compared to TUF – but it works.
Here’s a video from last night’s episode. Watch it and tell me if this isn’t better than TUF.
