Daniel Cormier is one the fastest rising stars in MMA, and as a result, Dana White says he would have no problem giving the heavyweight an immediate title shot if he decides to drop down to light-heavyweight. But will Cormier do it though? Sounds like a good idea right?

Of course, the reason there’s all this debate and speculation regarding Cormier’s future, is because of his relationship with UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez, who is his teammate and friend at AKA. In addition, Cormier is not the hugest of heavyweights, and a cut to 205 pounds seems possible.

Cormier announced on UFC Tonight this week that he’ll make a decision regarding his future soon, just days removed from his unanimous decision win over Frank Mir at UFC on FOX 7.

So, during the same week former middleweight Chael Sonnen will get his immediate title shot with light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones, Dana White was asked to comment on Cormier’s plans (quote via MMA Weekly.com).

“I actually prefer him at 205,” said White.  “He could drop to 205 and get a shot at the title in my opinion… day one.  Look at the guys he’s beat at heavyweight.”

Fans and pundits who aren’t down with the whole immediate title shot thing might not  be pleased to hear this, but rest easy, Cormier also told UFC Tonight that he would like to fight at 205 at least once, before fighting for the title.
