It was a compelling bit of news when it was announced pro wrestler CM Punk was ditching the WWE life for the Octagon life. But that was, what, ten years ago? Now we’re just wondering when Punk is going to be “up to speed” enough on this whole MMA thing to be able to step into the cage.

Well, according to UFC boss Dana White, it’s definitely happening next year. Definitely.

“I didn’t know. It was the first time this guy has ever trained,” White said when asked if he thought CM Punk would fight within the year of his signing. “The guy has never wrestled. He professional wrestled, but he never wrestled.”

“He will fight next year, 100 percent,” he said.

As for an opponent for Punk’s debut, White himself is looking for one among the minor league shows he’s been checking out for his reality show.

“I just started a new show, the pilot is on YouTube, it’s called Dana White: Looking for a Fight, and I’m actually out looking for opponents for CM Punk right now.”

The lesson here, folks, is to not write checks your butt can’t cash.
