Back in 2008, Lyoto Machida made a name for himself by beating Tito Ortiz via decision.

After that, Machida went on to knock Thiago Silva and Rashad Evans out, earning himself the UFC light heavyweight title when he floored Evans.

That win over Ortiz was more important than just in determining the pecking order for “The Dragon,” however.

UFC president Dana White told Big Boy in an interview recently that he gave Machida a little something extra for the win.

“The only time in 13 years….(when Machida beat Ortiz) I actually wrote him a personal check,” White said. “The UFC paid him his show money, his win money and if he wins one of the bonuses he gets bonused.

“I literally bonused him myself.”

White and Ortiz had their issues, most of them becoming public over time. Ortiz is now with Bellator MMA, but has yet to compete due to a neck surgery.

You can hear the complete interview between White and Big Boy below. The UFC boss also talks about which fighters have personally threatened him.

Machida returns to action this Saturday night against Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night.
