Cub Swanson remains haunted by the 2009 eight-second knockout loss he suffered at the hands of Jose Aldo when the two were in the WEC.

Now, almost five years later, Swanson continues to push for a rematch with the current UFC featherweight champion.

With news that Gilbert Melendez – not Aldo – would be the next man to face UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis breaking late Sunday night, Swanson again took to social media to make his claim.

“I’d love to fight Aldo as a Fox main event!” he wrote on Twitter. He also added a direct message to Aldo, asking “We fight?”

Swanson (20-5) has won five consecutive inside the Octagon since a 2011 loss to Ricardo Lamas, the most recent challenger to Aldo’s reign atop the division. He is 7-2 overall since the first meeting with Aldo, as the only other defeat came to Chad Mendes – another former Aldo challenger.
