Cris Cyborg became a US citizen yesterday, which is pretty cool…

…and then she got screwed out of a title fight that no one else in the world deserves more than her.

The longtime best female featherweight in the world has been waiting patiently for the UFC to open up a 145-pound division, and since the UFC has already been using her as a star attraction in their Brazilian shows, it was assumed that when the UFC did create a featherweight belt for the ladies, she’d be at the top of the list of worthy contenders. But last night the UFC announced that Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie would be the first women vying for the damn thing (at UFC 208 in Brooklyn, NY).

Truth be told, it’s really no one’s fault that this is happening. According to Cyborg, she wouldn’t be ready for a fight until March, and the UFC needed to add some luster to their Brooklyn card.

Plus, I think it’s a safe bet that whoever wins on February 11 will have to defend their title against Cyborg soon after.
