If Cain Velasquez is thinking about changing up his approach tonight against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, and focusing more on his striking game, Randy Couture thinks it’s a bad idea. Of course, Couture also knows what it’s like to battle men who are twenty or thirty pounds bigger than you and win.

Velasquez turned to his wrestling skills to blast through Silva one year ago at UFC 146, and since that strategy clearly worked, and in gory fashion, Couture believes the champ shouldn’t stray from that game-plan.

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie.com, the legendary fighter noted that “you can’t afford to play around with guys of that size. Trust me I know.”Couture got caught by the much bigger Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 and was finished off with strikes. Couture, who knows a few things about wrestling as well, added:

“[Silva] is dangerous. He’s big, he’s strong, and he can hit hard, and if Cain gets caught up in that kind of fight and wants to trade with him, it could be a surprise. But I think Cain is smart. I think he’s going to have a game plan and do the appropriate thing he needs to do: implement the striking he has, but use wrestling to win that fight.”

In all likelihood, that’s probably what’s going to happen tonight at UFC 160.
