Earlier it was reported that Vitor Belfort was pleading for a chance to face current top contender Chris Weidman, but it doesn’t look like Weidman is interested. Although he was a bit soft on his stance to fight champion Anderson Silva after he defeated Mark Munoz, it seems like he truly wants that title shot now. According to his Twitter he feels it’s his time to fight for the belt.

“Love ya @vitorbelfort but you already had your shot at the belt and Im sure u will have another in the future. Rt now is my time though.”

For Weidman a shot against Belfort doesn’t make sense in that Belfort already had his chance, but lost it. Chris is right in hat he’s more deserving of a shot than Belfort. He has five straight wins, and beat two top contenders in Demian Maia and Mark Munoz in his last two fights. In contrast, Belfort has won two in a row, but against mid-tier fighters in Anthony Johnson and Yoshihiro Akiyama. The match up does not quite make sense.

On the other hand, Alan Belcher has been calling out Vitor for quite some time. If Belfort wants to get back to a shot at the title, then Belcher may be the way to go. He’s currently riding a good streak, and is in the mix of contenders. A win over Belcher would legitimize his want for the title, but at the same time  would work wonders for Belcher’s career as well. Alan wants to fight for the title, but is missing the big name on his resume that give him notoriety.
