Not long after word surfaced that Costa Philippou has suffered a cut in training and will no longer fight “Jacare” Souza on May 18th, the UFC has announced that Chris Camozzi will face the former Strikeforce champ.

The promotion has also announced that Octagon newcomer Joao Zeferino (13-4) will step in on short notice to fight Rafael Natal (15-4-1), who was originally scheduled to fight Camozzi. You follow?

Camozzi (19-5) is currently riding a four fight win streak and is coming off a split decision win over Nick Ring in March. The middleweight was originally signed to the UFC on FX 8 card as a replacement for CB Dollaway, who was set to fight Cezar Ferreira. The latter also went down with an injury, however, and Natal was added to the event.

Souza (17-3), who will be making his Octagon debut, has won three in a row and is coming off a submission win over UFC vet Ed Herman in January. Camozzi-Jacare should also be a great bout.

UFC on FX8 will take place in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil and will feature Vitor Belfort versus Luke Rockhold in the main event.
