Following news of Vitor Belfort denying a proposed match-up against Tim Kennedy from the UFC, “The Phenom” follows up with interest in one of the most popular figures in the sport today — Chael Sonnen. Of course “The Bad Guy” already has a fight lined up for Aug. 15 versus former champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. This did not seem to deter Sonnen from considering the match-up.
“Vitor, I accept. However, he has a title of number-one contender. If he’s willing to put that on line, not only will I fight him, but I’ll do it on December 28. Weidman defends his title, Rousey defends her title, and Vitor, you have a title and I want you to defend it against me.’”
The UFC loves to stack their end of the year cards as high as possible. With UFC 168 already standing out with two huge blockbuster fights, the addition of Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort we would get the sweetest icing on the biggest cake yet. Sonnen may need to fight a tough challenge in Shogun, but win or lose — “The Gangster” has somehow still garnered interest.
