Renan Barao used to be the bantamweight champ, and back then, making weight wasn’t really a problem. But since losing the belt, and possibly hitting puberty, he can’t seem to make 135 pounds without passing out and bonking his head on the toilet bowl. He claims he can make bantamweight. He is, however, delusional.
Which, according to the athletic commission, is no bueno.
As per MMAFighting:
The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) will not license Renan Barao at 135 pounds, executive officer Andy Foster confirmed to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.
Barao was announced as fighting Aljamain Sterling in a bantamweight bout at UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, Calif., last month. But, citing its new weight-cutting rules, CSAC will not let the fight go on at that weight class, Foster said.
I don’t have a problem with this, as it means a commission is actually doing something right to protect a fighter from himself.
