Dana White gave an update on Heavyweight champ Brock Lesner’s surgery this week to Yahoo Sport’s Dan Wetzel on Wednesday, saying that they are unsure if Lesner will actually fight again.
“He had a hole in his intestine. The (stuff) was leaking into his stomach. That’s what was causing him so much pain. That and he had abscesses. The doctor told him he hasn’t been right for a year. His immune system has been trying to fight this thing and that’s why he was susceptible to getting sick… We’ll find out more next week. We’re going to send him to the Mayo Clinic for a couple of days. I don’t know what to say. It’s looking better now than last week, but what that means, I don’t know.”
The illnesses Brock had contracted, including his most recent diagnosis of mono, that he just received a few weeks ago, are a result of an ongoing problem that has not been diagnosed up until this point. Everyone one is hoping that Lesner will be able to return to fighting, but we will have to wait and see until his surgery follow-up in the coming weeks.
Lesner’s coach was quoted saying Brock is “much better than he was” and was “feeling better. He’s at home, that’s where he wants to be.” His coach confirmed that Lesnar may need more surgery, but he went on to say that “his goal is to get back and get back in the cage.”
