Great day for fight fans as multiple bouts have been announced for multiple cards. The latest of which bring a fan favorite back to the country that made him famous. Wanderlei Silva is returning to Japan for UFC on FUEL TV 8 against the Brain Stann. The former Marine will be invading hostile territory as he will have very few fans rooting for him in this bout. Silva will be returning to more than Japan as this fight will take place at light-heavyweight which is the weight division he was a champion at in Pride.
Both of these fan favorite fighters are coming off losses in their last outings. Stann was beaten over the course of three rounds by former Ultimate Fighter winner Michael Bisping. Prior to that was an impressive first round KO over Alessio Sakara.
For Silva, he has had mixed results since dropping to 185, by going 2-2 in the division. Alternating wins and losses, Wanderlei has picked up wins over the aforementioned Bisping as well as a win over Cung Le, but losses to Chris Leben and Rich Franklin has stalled his momentum. He will likely have another standup war on his hands with Stann.
Also, a long rumored matchup between Takanori Gomi and Diego Sanchez will take place on the card. Sanchez returns to 155 after four fight return at 170. Gomi has been doing well winning his last two fights which is the first time in three years he has been able to string together wins. Sanchez will look to put the pressure on Gomi and force him into his fight. Gomi will look to test his chin with his power punches, and will make use of his wrestling game to keep it standing. Another great card for the new year.
