Although it looked like this summer that Nick Diaz was ready to come out of retirement and throw down in the Octagon once again, nothing materialized and it’s been relatively quiet on that front. Then Dana White relayed that Diaz has some “kickback money” and just isn’t keen on fighting right now.

Well, this week, Diaz’s long time friend and teammate Gilbert Melendez said that he believes the talented fighter will return, for the “right opportunity”, whether it’s “it’s boxing, whether it’s kickboxing, whether it’s whatever, some sort of challenge would be great” (quote via MMA Melendez also added that Diaz is only interested in fighting top tier competition and that he doesn’t want to be “a stepping stone.”

Now this is where things get really interesting. After seeing the tweet regarding the above story, Mr. Michael Bisping posted the following via his Twitter account:

well if Diaz wants a fight at 185 I would happily welcome him to the division.

And then, when UFC boss man Dana White was asked about the proposed all-star match-up via Twitter, he responded by saying “I love that fight.”

Of course, none of this means that fans should start laying out plans for a Bisping-Diaz viewing party, as all it is at this juncture is talk. Further, it remains to be seen if Diaz would even be interested in fighting Bisping. One would think, however, that if he wants a challenge, and wants to take on one of the promotion’s bigger names, well, Bisping is certainly that. In addition, because both fighters have been known to make headline grabbing statements from time-to-time, chances are the fight would draw some serious interest.

Bisping continues to recover from surgery he had recently to repair a detached retina in his eye. “The Count” says he hopes to fight again sometime in spring, 2014.
