Shortly after Anderson Silva admits to the media that he is looking to take time off from fighting until the tail-end of 2013, Michael Bisping takes to Twitter to voice his frustration on his long awaited title shot.
“If Anderson wants to take time off to be a movie star, make me and Vitor for the interim title????” Bisping wrote to UFC President Dana White Monday evening on Twitter.
The break for Anderson however is not set in stone. As we’ve seen from fighters in the past, money can change a lot. Silva had originally told the press after his win over Chael Sonnen that he would take the rest of 2012 off. Of course that didn’t happen. Silva could not sit back and allow the Rio, Brazil card to crumble, replacing his countrymen in the headline versus Stephan Bonnar.
Should Silva stick to his word however, it would likely force the hand of the UFC to put out an interim title in the champs hiatus. With a build up in contenders at middleweight between Michael Bisping, Alan Belcher, Chris Weidman and Tim Boetsch – the division is in much need of a defending champ. Between the talks of Silva taking a break or fighting in super-fights, such as against Georges St-Pierre or Jon Jones, the likely-hood of any of the contenders getting a shot is looking less and less likely.
