It’s not often that a veteran like Vitor Belfort pleads for a bout with an up and comer like Chris Weidman. That seems to be the case though as Weidman has been said to be ready for a title shot against reigning champ Anderson Siliva, according to Dana White. Belfort has taken to Twitter to let his fans know that he has pleaded his case with UFC match-maker Joe Silva for a contenders bout between himself and Weidman in his home country.

Guys I spoke to Joe Silva and ask to fight with the top contender #weidman here in brasil so I think this is the fight that will credence me to a title fight so that is what happened. I want the belt but I am not desperate I think weidman is the next for the belt, but Anderson silva deserve to see who is next .So let`s make this fight the next #contender belfort vs weidman the next contender for #andersonsilva

The bout is plausible. The UFC president may want to do Silva vs. Weidman, but it’s really up to Silva and his management if they are willing to take on a fairly unknown talent at this point in his career. If Silva denies the bout as many analyst believe he will, the UFC will want to further weed out the top contenders. Belfort is in the running alongside Boetsch, Belcher, Weidman and even Bisping; should he win his upcoming bout against Stann. With the current up-rise in contenders, we are likely looking at an unofficial mini-tourney to find Silva’s next match-up.
