Rory MacDonald showed inside the Octagon, Demian Maia was no match for him this past weekend, scoring a decision victory at UFC 170.
Outside the cage, though, MacDonald was defeated by something else: an avocado.
After picking up his seventh UFC victory, MacDonald (16-2) discussed a kitchen incident that almost forced him to pull out of his fight in Las Vegas.
“I stabbed myself (while cutting an avocado),” MacDonald said. “It was pretty embarrassing. I couldn’t believe it.
“I thought I was going to have to pull out because you could easily hit a tendon.”
The Tristar fighter went to the hospital, got himself stitched up and checked out, saying, “everything’s fine and intact. I fought and everything’s cool.”
With the win, MacDonald got himself back on track after a decision loss to Robbie Lawler last year. He has dropped just two UFC fights in his career – to Lawler and former interim champion Carlos Condit.
