Alistair Overeem will apparently not make his return at UFC 164 as expected, and instead, will fight Travis Browne at UFC on FOX Sports 1, August 17th. According to a report from MMA Junkie.com, the heavyweight bout will not serve as the headliner for the Boston bound event.
Overeem will be returning from an injury that pulled him from this Saturday’s UFC 160 card and a bout with Junior dos Santos. The decorated fighter will be looking to rebound from his memorable KO loss at the massive hands of “Big Foot” Silva, which took place at UFC 156 in February. Prior to the loss Overeem had won eight straight fights.
Browne will be looking to build on the knockout win he recorded over Gabriel Gonzaga at the TUF 17 Finale in April, which followed a TKO loss to the aforementioned Silva in October.
UFC boss man Dana White promised that the UFC on FS 1 card was going to be huge, and the addition of this tilt certainly helps no? Other fights that have been confirmed to date include Matt Brown vs. Thiago Alves and Joe Lauzon vs. Michael Johnson.
The card will be hosted by Boston’s TD Garden Arena.
