The UFC announced today during their press conference in Toronto, that they are planning to open a Canada office in the near future. The official date and location for the opening have not yet been announced.
“The support that we receive from the fans and the media here is second to none,” said Dana White. “It’s time for UFC to show its commitment to this country and prove that we are as passionate about our Canadian fans as they are about us.”
He also mentioned that there will be a staff of 12-15 employees, like the UFC UK office.
“[The office] will operate much like the one in the U.K. does,” White stated.
The even bigger news was that Tom Wright, former Commissioner of the Canadian Football League, as well as the former Adidas President will head the office. His duties will include improving relationships with the local surrounding communities as well as help with regulating MMA in Ontario.
“There’s no doubt he’s the man to lead the charge,” White said. “He’s going to get it done ASAP.”
Wright stated that the position was a good chance for him to build up the UFC in Canada, and would like the organization to host up to three annual events in Canada as well.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to lead Canadian operations for the UFC and to be involved in this incredible period of time in the sport’s history,” Wright said. “I look forward to helping the UFC build its brand and business in Canada.”
