Just reported, Gilbert Melendez will be returning to the cage this September, to defend his lightweight title against Pat Healy. The two will be headlining the event now titled “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy” which was previously announced with no main bout.

The fights will be taking place on September 29th at the Power Balance Pavilion (formerly known as the ARCO Arena) in Sacramento, California.

Melendez will be making his return after a win in May over Josh Thomson, which made for his fourth-straight Strikefroce lightweight title defense. He currently boasts a 21-2 record in his professional career, with 11 of his wins coming via knockout.

Healy will be coming into this fight with a five fight win streak in the promotion, and is 8-1 in his last nine fights. He was last seen taking down Mizuto Hirota earlier this month, and although many felt he had lost the fight, Healy won via unanimous decision. He currently holds a 28-16 record.
