Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem continues to win in the cage as he defeats Fabricio Werdum for his seventh consecutive win. Here is the nights action play by play.

Round One:
Werdum misses a high kick and Overeem comes forward but Werdum shrugs his advancement. Werdum shoots and stuffed. Werdum throws a kick and its caught as Overeem throws him down. Werdum stoffed again and again. Werdum continues the same formula attempting to coax Overeem but he isn’t having it. Overeem lands a Rutten liver shot but Werdum looks unaffected. The two clinch Overeem pulls a leg kick and  waits for Werdum to raise. Overeem man handles Werdum throwing him to the ground in the clinch. As the clock ends Overeem goes to the ground and throws some short elbows to end the round.

Round Two:
Overeem misses with a big right. Werdum gets a quick knee in the clinch and Overeem responds with the same. Werdum throws a leg kick and its caught and takes Overeem down. Werdum is on top for a second until Overeem scrambles up. Overeem lands a hook that drops Werdum. Werdum rises slowly as he limps which may be an act. Overeem goes into the guard after another failed shot and finishes the round in the guard.

Round Three:
Werdum comes out looking winded but goes to striking with jabs but not affective. Overeem lands an over hand right to the temple that gives him another reason to fall to guard. Overeem works out of the guard and stands waiting for him to stand. Werdum comes forward with big hooks that land but do not look to phase the champ. Overeem comes forward as Werdum once again pulls guard. The crowd is yelling “stand them up” as not much happens in the guard. Overeem stands and Werdum lands some hooks and the two go down. Werdum attempts a leg lock but time runs out.

Though a lackluster fight Overeem’s victory marks win number 35 for Overeem’s impressive career record, with almost half  being by submission, and another 14 by a vicious KO. He will now go on to fight Antonio “Big Foot” Silva, in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament.
