The 23 year-old female mixed martial artist, Miesha Tate (11-2) was able to pull off two back to back unanimous decisions in the same night, winning the first ever Strikeforce woman’s tourney. Tate, the only American in the tournament came in as the crowd favorite, but an underdog on paper against the more experienced submission specialist, Hitomi Akano (16-8).

Notably, current 135 lb Strikeforce woman’s champion Sarah Kauffman predicted the Japanese star, Akano to pull the win over Tate, but this did not seem to be the case as Tate used superior grappling against both opponents to dominate the rounds.
