Although visa issues forced Tyrone Spong to withdraw from a scheduled, June 14th tilt with Angel DeAnda at World Series of Fighting 3, the kickboxing titan GLORY has announced that the feared striker will compete at it’s June 22nd event in New York City.

In a press release sent out today, GLORY confirmed that Spong will fight in a one night, single elimination tournament on that date. The competition will be contested at light-heavyweight (209 pounds / 95 kilograms).

“We are excited to enter Tyrone into this historic, first GLORY championship series event in the U.S. that will determine who is physically and mentally the top athlete in kickboxing’s light heavyweight division,” Glory Sports International CEO Andrew Whitaker was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion.

“Tyrone’s recent performances in the ring have distinguished him as one of the best and most powerful martial arts fighters in the world who can showcase our great sport at its highest level,” Whitaker added, “so we look forward to seeing him compete against the other superstars who have been enlisted for action in the tournament.”

Other man who are scheduled to compete in the tourney include Dustin Jacoby, Brian Collette, Danyo Illunga, Mourad Bouzidi, Steve McKinnon, Filip Verlinden and Michael Duut. The event will be hosted by the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Spong, who is coming off a stoppage win over Remy Bonjasky at GLORY 5 in March, is expected to return to the MMA cage at WSOF 4 in August.
