Rousimar Palhares endured yet another controversy at WSOF 22 this past Saturday.

As we reported here at Caged Insider, the promotion’s welterweight champion secured another impressive submission victory at the show — this time over another grappling expert in Jake Shields — but didn’t tap as initially signaled by the referee.

Shields also complained that Palhares also gouged his eyes several times in the bout.

Palhares denied any wrongdoing. But this time, the controversies caught up to the Brazilian, who was stripped of the WSOF 170 lb title and suspended indefinitely.

The news was celebrated by many, including our own Jim Genia, who remarked that Palhares simply “the dude does not belong in the sport.”

Palhares responded today in an interview with MMA Fighting — saying that Shields was the cheater.

“Jake Shields is unbelievable,” Palhares said to Guillherme Cruz. “He’s a total a–hole… he has no respect for me, for the sport, for anyone. He’s dishonest. He had Vaseline all over his body; he was more slippery than an okra. I couldn’t grab a hold of him for nothing.”

Palhares also denied gouging Shields’ eyes.

“I never gouged his eyes. I was pushing his face because he was hitting my eyes with his chin,” Palhares said. “He says his eyes were like that because I eye gouged him, but how about my kicks and punches? Is he crazy? I beat him up, tapped him, and he’s saying I did that because I eye gouged him? That’s pure crap.”

Both Shields, who threw a punch after the fight was stopped, and Palhares are temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
