ONE FC: Roar of Tigers just went down last night in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. You may have missed it as it wasn’t one of their bigger lineups of the year.
Still, local MMA fans were excited to see Southeast Asia’s up-and-comers get a little bit of the spotlight, like women’s flyweight Ann “Athena” Osman, Malaysia’s first female pro, who scored a TKO victory against Aya Saeid Saber in her feature bout. Another Malaysian, Peter Davis, won his co-main event bout against Vaughn Donayre of the Philippines, to the delight of the crowd.
But perhaps of more interest to international MMA fans were scenes like this from the event:
As you can see, ONE FC continues the tradition of old school Brazilian vale tudo and more recent PRIDE FC events, with nasty soccer kicks to the head 100% legal, and 200% brutal.
In fact, as became evident in the case of Stephen Langdown’s defeat of Malaysia’s Raymond Tan at ONE FC, elbows are legal too. Langdown, of Singapore, used a few in his efforts to bring Tan to the mat before following with the heavy round kick to the head which you see in the above clip. PRIDE FC allowed the kicks but not the elbows, while UFC allows the elbows but not the kicks.
ONE FC pretty much features a smorgasbord of violence.
So, what do you think? Would you like to see more of this in international MMA? Or are the more controlled Unified Rules of Nevada, et al more your speed?
