With the New Year in sight, and with 2012 being one of the worst years in recent memories, in terms of fight cancellations, suspensions and fighter injuries, I thought I’d take a look forward to 2013, and discuss some of the sport’s fighters that need to come back with a roar in 2013. Whether coming back from injury, suspension, a big loss or just looking to back up the hype, the year 2013 will be a make-or-break year for some of MMA’s elite fighters.
10. Nick Diaz
The Stockton bad-boy (I’d say he just hates that moniker by now) is currently serving a year-long suspension for a positive drugs test taken after his controversial decision loss to Carlos Condit back in February. In fairness to Diaz, a year seemed very harsh a suspension for the use of marijuana.
Things are looking up for Diaz however, as UFC president Dana White has said recently said that he will face his nemesis Georges St-Pierre in March for the UFC welterweight title. Coming off a loss, and being regularly vocal about fighting GSP (and even Anderson Silva), Diaz will have a lot to do to prove that he’s truly one of the best in the world. Where would a defeat leave Diaz? One thing’s for certain, the UFC have never shied away from giving big fights to big talkers.
