World Series of Fighting 5 enjoyed the first knockout of the evening , as Derrick Mehmen overcame some early struggles with an improved boxing game from Rolles Gracie to score a second round knockout.
Gracie, best remembered for a debacle of a bout at UFC 109 in 2010, showed vastly improved standup skills. Mehmen found himself chasing Gracie around the cage, eating jabs and several kicks — including a hard round kick to the body towards the end of the stanza. Mehmen was able to shrug off Gracie’s only takedown attempt, but clearly lost the round.
In the second, Mehmen edged closer with his strikes, landing a few punching combinations in the clinch. Gracie was stepping backwards when an overhand right caught his jaw. Gracie turned akwardly and dropped to the mat.
Mehmen improves his record to 16-5. The loss drops Gracie to 8-2.
At World Series of Fighting 5, Derrick Mehmen defeated Rolles Gracie by knockout (overhand right) at 2:40 of round two.
