His two-year UFC run may have ended with a KO at the hands of Tim Means back in December, but John Howard still has some pep in him.

Taking on Michael Arrant tonight at World Series of Fighting 31, the Boston-based Muay Thai specialist met his opponent in the center of the cage and traded blows. And though Arrant managed to mark him up a bit, for all three rounds Howard scored with hard and fast low-kicks and judicious punches on the feet.

The first two rounds were close, with the power strikes being landed by Howard and the volume of strikes coming from Arrant. However, Round 3 was much more clear cut – Howard, after having caught and dropped Arrant with a right against the cage, employed a superior top game to keep Arrant flat and on the defense. When the horn sounded, the UFC vet even had his opponent’s back.

All three judges gave Howard the fight with unanimous scores of 30-27.

Howard may have run the thread out on his UFC career, but if his performance tonight is any indication, he’s still got some juice to squeeze in the World Series of Fighting.
