Urijah Faber has been talking about landing a third scrap with his bestest buddy, Dominick Cruz, and not retirement, but according to his teammate “The California Kid” might hang them up if secures the 135 title.

It remains to be seen what the UFC is going to do with the bantamweight belt, but, there’s certainly a chance the promotion is going to book Cruz – Faber III next. After all, the latter is one of the biggest names in the UFC, and he’s 1-1 with the champ. In addition, they have a long standing beef, so there’s a nice backstory to run with.

Faber was the WEC featherweight champ, and has been one of the UFC’s top bantamweights for sometime, but has failed to add the coveted 135 title to his trophy case. So, according to his teammate Cody Garbrandt, if Faber is able to defeat Cruz and land the bantamweight crown, he might go out on top.

While appearing on Submission Radio recently, Garbrandt had this to say about Faber (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):

“If Urijah would be the champion I think he would beat Cruz in the next fight. We talked about it before, he’ll go out as champion, retire,” Garbradt said. “Urijah has done so much for the sport and been a world champion, he’s been the Featherweight king at the WEC – and people seem to forget Urijah ruled that era for a very long time, fought some of the best fighters. What else would he have to prove? You win the title and go out, storybook ending. Boom, done.”

It would be a pretty fantastic way to end his career. No question. Especially when you consider that Cruz is regarded by many as the best 135’er to date.

But, if Faber is able to defeat Cruz (and that’s not something a lot of folks are forecasting), would he be able to turn down a fight with TJ Dillashaw? A fight that tons of people want to see and would send Faber some serious cash?

Faber is coming off a UD win over Frankie Saenz in December, after losing by decision to Frankie Edgar last May.
