TUF vet James Vick probably thought that if he beat Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC Fight Night 135, he’d finally break into the ranks of the elite of the lightweight division. He probably thought that the former WSOF champ’s recent losses to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier meant that Gaethje was very beatable. But sitting there on his stool, after the fight was over and doctors were trying to determine if he’d suffer a concussion, the only thing Vick likely thought was, “Uhhh, derrrrppp…”

A minute and 27 seconds. That’s how long it took for Gaethje to cut off the cage, step forward, and land an overhand right that hit Vick so hard in the dome that Vick was out of it for a long time after.

Vick was so out of it, when Gaethje went over to his stool to give him a consolation hug, Vick tried to reach down for a takedown!

Supposedly, Vick’s reach advantage would’ve had him inflicting damage from the outside while Gaethje struggled to get into range. But nope.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

Result: Justin Gaethje def. James Vick via KO (Punch) at 1:27, R1
