Things have gotten pretty rough for Paige VanZant as of late.
Thanks to a great work ethic, and massive mainstream exposure from nearly winning “Dancing With The Stars”, she was a hot ticket in the Octagon and destined for big things. But she just can’t quite seem to get past the elite fighters of her division, like Rose Namajunas and Michelle Waterson. And in last night’s UFC Fight Night 124 co-main event, she broke her arm in Round 2 of her fight against Jessica-Rose Clark, and lost a decision.
Clark did her homework of course, and had answers to VanZant’s high-flying kicks and constant lateral movement. Whenever VanZant came in close, Clark was ready with counter-punches, and whenever VanZant was ready to grapple, Clark made sure she herself took control. Both the first and the second round saw Clark earn her points by staying in top position and, when she couldn’t, threatening with a triangle choke.
But the defining moment of the fight was when VanZant nailed her with a spinning forearm earl in Round 2. After that, VanZant’s right arm was almost useless, and all Clark had to do was to avoid eating a jumping switch-kick to cruise to a decision win.
