It was going to be another day at the office for strawweight champ Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 217.

She was going to greet her adoring fans with a scowl as she strutted to the cage, and when the Octagon door would shut, she’d clobber the over-matched Rose Namajunas.

Namajunas had other ideas, though. And after knocking out the Polish champ, “Thug Rose” was crowned queen.

It was an improbable victory, as we’d seen Namajunas lose against the likes of Karolina Kowalkeiwicz and Carla Esparza, while Jedrzejczyk was nigh-untouchable. But there it was, right before our eyes: Jedrzejczyk in a heap on the canvas, Namajunas over her raining down punches.

These ladies will rematch at UFC 223, in a co-main event that promises to bring all sorts of violence to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Can Jedrzejczyk reclaim the crown she lost, or will Namajunas once more prove her superiority with striking somehow more true than the striker’s?

I have no clue. But I know I’m going to rewatch Namajunas’ beating of Paige VanZant to help me figure this thing out.
