We’re inching closer to the UFC 222 pay-per-view slated for this Saturday.

While the main event features featherweight champ Cris Cyborg defending her belt against Invicta FC bantamweight champ Yana Kunitskaya, and the co-main event has Frankie Edgar facing young upstart Brian Ortega, perhaps the one bout really worth noting is a promotional debut.

Mackenzie Dern is going to lose her status as Octagon rookie when she takes on Ashley Yoder. Sure, Dern is an accomplished grappler who’s down well thus far in the cages of the minor leagues, but it’s seriously telling that in her first UFC appearance, Dern is “main eventing” the FOX Sports 1 prelims.

That’s right, she’s getting featured on premium cable television, and will receive tons of exposure – an honor usually reserved for veteran fighters known for throwing down and inspiring viewers to purchase the pay-per-view.

That’s a hell of a thing right there. To put this in perspective, Conor McGregor didn’t get to be featured on any prelims in his debut, nor in his second UFC fight.

It’s clear the UFC is going big on Dern. Could she be the next big thing?

Here she is on the latest episode of Embedded.
