UFC 222 was a disaster in the making, but the crisis has now been averted.
Originally, the event was supposed to feature as a main event featherweight champ Max Holloway versus Frankie Edgar.
But Holloway got sidelined due to injury, and Edgar was left without a suitable dance partner.
Then the UFC kicked around the idea of a bout between bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw versus former champ Cody Garbrandt. Dillashaw was having none of that, though. So now what?
Now it’s female featherweight champ Cris Cyborg to the rescue. As per UFC boss Dana White, Cyborg will face Invicta FC bantamweight champ Yana Kunitskaya, while Edgar gets a co-main event slot opposite Brian Ortega. Both Kunitskaya and Ortega will get murdered, but whatever, at least there’s a show…
