New Zealander Dan Hooker has been doing his own thing in the Octagon, winning some and losing some but staying dangerous. Brit Marc Diakiese came into the Octagon with a lot of hype, and until his last fight, showed a ton of explosiveness and upside.

Sadly, despite this being the UFC’s big year-end gala, neither fighter seemed to want to take any chances in the first round of their UFC 219 scrap. Sure, Diakiese threw some kicks, and Hooker got a takedown late, but when you fight not to lose…

The Brit turned up the thermostat slightly in the second, winging lefts that threatened to take Hooker’s head off, and after a scramble, the Kiwi soon became Diakiese’s backpack – albeit the kind of backpack that tries to choke you out. Diakiese defended well, but they ended up stalemating for much of the round, and that ain’t fun.

You know what is fun? A mistake, which Diakiese made in Round 3. He shot for a takedown, Hooker cinched on the guillotine, and that’s all she wrote.
