Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm are finally going to meet in the cage at UFC 219, in a division that was tailor-made for them and their pairing.

That’s right, there would be no UFC female featherweight division without the shimmering brilliance of Cyborg, and there would be no superstar match-up for the UFC to build towards if not for Holm and the trouble she potentially brings to the Brazilian.

Of course, this fight very nearly never happened. Contract negotiations and pay disputes aside, Holm almost fell off the face of the Earth thanks to repeated losses in the Octagon. After earning star status by knocking out Ronda Rousey, Holm couldn’t find a win to save her life. Miesha Tate stripped her of her belt, and subsequent stumbles against Valentina Shevchenko and Germaine de Randamie had us all questioning if the Rousey fight was a fluke.

Thankfully, Bethe Correia opted to stand and trade with Holm, and we got a pleasant reminder that, when it comes to fighting on the feet, Holm is deadly as hell.

And now the UFC has the female featherweight championship bout they’ve always wanted.

Yeah, Holm deserves this.
