The undercard of UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Penn 3 featured an unexpectedly brutal series of fights to lead up to the main event, with the two The Ultimate Fighter Season 19 winners crowned in quick knockouts.
Eddie Gordon and Corey Anderson were both betting underdogs against their opponents, but it took less than two and a half minutes combined for them to take home their TUF 19 titles, and the special prize of Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Gordon swarmed his opponent at middleweight, Dhiego Lima, from the opening bell. The ex-football standout hit punches from all angles, including some which appeared to hit the back of his undersized opponent’s head. Lima, who is expected to move down to welterweight, never recovered — and the bout was stopped at 1:11 of round one.
The light heavyweight final began, and ended, similarly. Anderson was noted for a safe, position-dominated wrestling style, but here, he performed aggressively — hitting 1-2 combinations to stun the favored Matt Van Buren. Van Buren could manage little in the way of offense, as he flailed about, and then flopped to his hands and knees. The punches keep pouring in, this time 100% legal — and the stoppage came at 1:01.
All four athletes competed for Team Edgar during the TUF 19 season.
At heavyweight, Derrick Lewis knocked out Guto Inocente in another round one knockout on the undercard. For full results, see UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Penn 3 Results& Play-By-Play (All Fights).
