UFC on FOX 29 is rapidly approaching, and with it comes a main event that will see more violence and more blood spilled than an NC-17 movie.
Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje are gonna clash, and by clash, I most certainly mean they’re going to stand about a foot away from each other and start punching, and they won’t stop until someone’s face caves in.
At this point, we know both guys are tough as nails and game as hell. Poirier has been in there with the just about every elite fighter there is, and though he’s racked up a few losses here and there, he’s put away dudes like current champ Max Holloway, Yancy Medeiros, Bobby Green and former champ Anthony Pettis. When it comes to boxing, Poirier’s hands are on point, and his jiu-jitsu ain’t shabby either.
Gaethje was one of the only good things to come out of the World Series of Fighting, and his badassery was enough to warrant him getting a coaching slot on TUF after just one fight in the Octagon. He’s got skills similar to Poirier, but if there’s anyone who thrives on getting punched in the face, it’s him.
Who’s going to come out on top in this one? It’s hard to say. But an impressive win by either man could mean a date with reigning champ Khabib Nurmagomedov in the future.
I’d say those are pretty high stakes, eh?
Here’s UFC commentator Jimmy Smith hyping the match-up.
