We love it when Olympic judo medalists compete in MMA, because, well… Ronda Rousey. Because of her. So it was a bit of a coup when PFL signed two-time gold medalist Kayla Harrison. Never mind that Harrison is a 155-pounder and you can count the number of 155-pound female fighters out there on one hand, she’s going to be the next Rousey dammit!
PFL 2 Brittney Elkin is some sort of jiu-jitsu specialist, but in her lone appearance in Bellator she lost, so you can bet she’s here to serve as Harrison’s dinner.
And guess what? When the referee says go, Harrison lumbers in, latches on, reaps out one of Elkin’s legs for the takedown, and just brutalizes her. Eventually she takes Elkin’s back, and the armbar is slower than molasses but utterly unavoidable.
So yeah, Harrison wins her MMA debut by tap out. She’s got a ways before she starts captivating the world (if she ever does), but this was a good first fight.
