Oh well, it was a good dream while it lasted.
Mirko Cro Cop, the Croatian head-kicker whose career saw him rise to stardom in Japan and diminish somewhat in the UFC, is out of the Bellator 200 main event. He was supposed to face UFC refugee Roy Nelson in a rematch of their UFC 137 bout from about a hundred years ago.
The below report states that Crop Cop suffered an “undisclosed injury”, but if you squint your eyes and read between the lines, you can almost make out the words “failed pre-fight drug test”.
Anyway, Bellator 200 is still slated to be an epic event.
The landmark show lost its main event on Monday, as Mirko Filipovic has been forced to withdraw from Friday’s main event at The SSE Arena in England with an undisclosed injury. “Cro Cop” was scheduled to make his Bellator debut in a rematch against UFC 137 opponent Roy Nelson, with the winner earning an alternate spot in the promotion’s World Heavyweight Grand Prix.
MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani confirmed the news, following an initial report from the The Telegraph.
A middleweight championship bout between Rafael Carvalho and challenger Gegard Mousasi is expected to serve as the new main event.
