Lightweight Michael Johnson and strawweight Cortney Casey share a common problem: They’re damn good fighters, but against the elite of their respective divisions, they get their butts kicked. Thankfully, UFC Fight Night 135 had them pitted against fighters at their level – like Andre Fili and Angela Hill – and the bouts ended up being pretty close.

For Johnson, that meant working his boxing and kicking against a dude perfectly capable of making him eat shin, and for a while there, Johnson was stuck with Fili on his back. But Johnson avoided the choke, and eventually earned the split decision.

Casey and Hill did their striking thing, and for the most part, Hill was more accurate and more mobile in her footwork. When time ran out, I had Hill taking the decision, but the judges giving the split decision to Casey wasn’t the worst robbery in history.
